A full day for cycling and safe mobility

As part of European Mobility Week 2026, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, together with Alternative ROUTE Social Cooperative Enterprise and the Xanthi Cycling Club “Pegasus”, is holding a full-day celebration in Xanthi dedicated to cycling, safe mobility and getting to know the city.

The programme features educational, hands-on activities for school groups during the morning and continues in the afternoon with activities for children and families, centred on cycling, road safety and the simple pleasure of taking part. The afternoon runs alongside a DJ set, giving the day a festive atmosphere for all ages.

A short introduction to the Festival, the activities and the purpose of European Mobility Week.

  2. Learning to ride safely

An educational session by the Xanthi Cycling Club “Pegasus”: using a bicycle correctly, essential equipment and helmets, basic road safety rules, moving safely through the city, and respect for pedestrians and other road users.

  3. “Discovering my city on foot”

Guided educational walks through Xanthi's old town with certified guide Natasa Michailidou. Pupils are split into groups and the walks run one after another.

  4. Close of the morning programme

Groups reconvene for a short recap of the activities.

Afternoon programme

Bike-handling skills for children — with a DJ set

FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES OWN BIKE & HELMET REQUIRED
  1. Arrival – Registration

Children and parents are welcomed and entered into the skills course, on the spot.

  2. Course walkthrough – Safety briefing

The “Pegasus” club presents the course, the obstacles and the rules. A practice run comes first, before timing begins.

  3. Children's bike-handling skills course

Tests of control and handling, changes of direction, balance and obstacle avoidance, each run timed. The aim is not performance but building skills, confidence on the bike and safe cycling habits.

  4. Music & DJ set

A DJ plays throughout the afternoon programme.

  5. Close of the Festival – Awards

Results are announced and awards presented to the young participants.
